COPG2 imprinted transcript 1 (COPG2IT1)

Target
COPG2IT1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), antisense RNA, non-protein coding RNA

Overview

COPG2 imprinted transcript 1 (COPG2IT1) is a paternally expressed long non-coding RNA transcribed from the twentieth intron of the COPG2 gene. It is classified as an imprinted antisense RNA and plays a role in epigenetic gene regulation. The biological functions and clinical significance of COPG2IT1 remain largely uncharacterized, though genetic associations have linked variants near COPG2IT1 to depressive disorders. No drugs or therapeutic modalities target COPG2IT1 directly, and it is not considered a standard drug target class such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor[3][5][6]. COPG2IT1 represents a member of the growing class of imprinted lncRNAs and antisense regulatory transcripts, which are increasingly recognized for their roles in fine-tuning gene expression and epigenetic states, especially during development and in certain diseases[2][5]. However, functional and mechanistic data for this specific transcript remain limited.

Mechanism of action

Not established for drugs; antisense lncRNAs typically regulate the expression of target genes via epigenetic or post-transcriptional mechanisms

03

Biological functions

Epigenetic regulation (imprinting)likely gene expression regulation based on typical antisense lncRNAs
04

Disease associations

Depressive disorder has been linked in genetic association studies. No robust evidence for major roles in other diseases yet.
