Overview

Core 1 O-glycans, also known as the T-antigen, are a fundamental subtype of mucin-type O-linked glycans. They consist of a galactose (Gal) molecule linked via a β1-3 bond to N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc), which is attached to serine or threonine residues on proteins. Core 1 O-glycans are involved in cell adhesion, immune responses, mucin formation, and protein folding. Aberrant expression is associated with diseases like cancer.
