Overview
Corneal astigmatism refers to the common optical disorder caused by an irregular curvature of the cornea, which results in refractive error as light rays are not properly focused onto a single point on the retina. This leads to blurred or distorted vision at all distances and may be accompanied by symptoms such as eye strain, headache, squinting, and double vision. Corneal astigmatism is distinct from lenticular astigmatism, which is caused by abnormal shaping of the lens[1][3][4][5][6]. It is usually corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or surgical procedures that reshape the cornea.
