Protein-coding cornichon homologues, such as CNIH2 and CNIH3, act as auxiliary subunits for AMPA-type glutamate receptors and participate in the trafficking and maturation of these ion channels, but the pseudogene lacks established physiological or disease-related functions[3][4]. The related protein-coding gene, CNIH4, is involved in endoplasmic reticulum to Golgi vesicle-mediated transport and may influence GPCR trafficking[3]. However, the pseudogene ENSG00000220522 does not serve as an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or biomarker, nor does it interact with drugs or act as a safety concern. It may be referenced for genomic annotation and studies of gene evolution.
