Cornifelin (CNFN) is a structural protein primarily localized to the cornified envelope of stratified squamous epithelial cells, such as those in the skin and oral mucosa. It contributes to the structural integrity and cell-cell adhesion of keratinocytes, particularly in the upper layers of the epidermis and mucosa. Deficiency of CNFN affects corneodesmosome morphology and weakens epithelial sheet cohesion, suggesting a critical role in epithelial barrier function. CNFN has no known direct therapeutic targeting or drug interactions and is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, or traditional drug target, but is associated with certain skin disorders related to epithelial barrier function[1][2][3].
