None
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Cysteine protease
01

Overview

The coronavirus 3C-like protease, also known as 3CLpro or main protease (Mpro), is a cysteine protease essential for the life cycle of coronaviruses. It cleaves viral polyproteins pp1a and pp1ab at conserved sites to release functional non-structural proteins (nsps) required for viral replication and transcription. Inhibitors targeting its active site block polyprotein processing and halt virus replication. Its high conservation across coronaviruses makes it a promising target for broad-spectrum antiviral drug development.
