Overview

Coronin-6 (CORO6) is an actin-binding cytoskeletal protein and a member of the coronin protein family, encoded by the CORO6 gene on human chromosome 17p11.2[2][3]. It is highly enriched in muscle tissue, especially at the neuromuscular junction, and plays a key role in clustering and anchoring acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) via interactions with F-actin, thereby stabilizing postsynaptic receptor complexes critical for efficient neurotransmission[1]. Studies show that Coronin-6 acts as a scaffolding protein, dependent on its coiled-coil and β-propeller domains, both for oligomerization and actin binding. Its expression is upregulated during muscle differentiation and after nerve denervation, and it may also be involved in specific responses to allergen exposure in airway epithelial cells[2]. Coronin-6 is conserved across eukaryotes, with close relation to other coronin proteins such as CORO1A and CORO1B[2]. There is currently no evidence that it is a direct therapeutic target, associated drug, biomarker, or presents safety concerns as a target[3][2][1].
