Overview

Correction of chromatic aberration via achromatic technology refers to methods employed in optical systems to compensate for chromatic aberration—a phenomenon where different colors (wavelengths) of light are focused at different points, causing blurred or distorted images. The most common solution is the achromatic lens (achromat), which combines two or more lens elements made from materials with differing dispersion properties so that two primary wavelengths (typically red and blue) converge at the same focus, thereby reducing color fringes and improving image sharpness. Achromatic technology is extensively used in high-precision imaging applications such as microscopy, photography, scientific instruments, and telescopes. While not perfect, these lenses deliver enhanced color fidelity and image clarity across a broad spectral range. Complex variants and advanced metasurfaces provide further correction at higher cost and manufacturing complexity.
