Corrosion products refer to the chemical substances, primarily metal ions and particulate oxides, formed by the electrochemical degradation of metallic implants when exposed to the physiological environment. In clinical contexts, these products most commonly originate from orthopedic or dental hardware made of alloys such as cobalt-chromium, stainless steel, or titanium (Source: PubMed, PMID: 24902444). They are not considered therapeutic targets but are pathological byproducts that can trigger adverse local tissue reactions (ALTR), chronic inflammation, and metallosis (Source: StatPearls, NBK560592).
