Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone Receptor 1 (CRHR1) is a G-protein coupled receptor that binds corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) and related neuropeptides such as urocortins. It is a major regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which controls stress responses by modulating endocrine, autonomic, behavioral, and immune functions. Dysregulation or genetic variation at this locus has been implicated in mood disorders such as depression and anxiety.
Antagonism of CRHR1 reduces HPA axis activity and stress responses.
