COTL1 pseudogene 1 (COTL1P1) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence in the human genome that shares sequence similarity with the functional COTL1 gene, which encodes an actin-binding protein involved in cytoskeletal regulation. COTL1P1 does not code for a protein, has no established biological or therapeutic function, and is not known to play a direct role in human disease. The presence of this pseudogene may result from evolutionary duplication or retrotransposition events. Its main relevance is for genomic annotation, not for clinical or pharmacological targeting[7][9]. Note: COTL1P1 is distinct from the functional COTL1 gene. Most disease associations, biological functions, and drug interactions relate to COTL1, not the pseudogene COTL1P1[1][3].
