COX11 pseudogene 1 (COX11P1) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene and does not encode a functional protein[3][5][6]. It is related to the functional COX11 gene, which encodes a copper chaperone essential for assembling cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondrial respiratory chain, but COX11P1 itself does not participate in this biological process[2][4]. Pseudogenes like COX11P1 typically result from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate mutations that render them nonfunctional. The lack of protein product means COX11P1 cannot act as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug-interacting molecule. The functional roles and disease relevance described for COX11 do not apply to COX11P1, and no mechanism-of-action, safety concerns, or alias information is relevant beyond its name and classification as a pseudogene.
