The COX20 Cox2 chaperone homolog pseudogene (ENSG00000267084) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence with high homology to the protein-coding COX20 gene, which is an essential mitochondrial chaperone that assists in the assembly of cytochrome c oxidase (complex IV) in the respiratory chain[1][3][7]. Pseudogenes like ENSG00000267084 arise from mutations, duplications, or retrotransposition events, and although they do not encode proteins, they may play indirect regulatory roles at the RNA level (e.g., interacting with microRNAs as ceRNAs)[2][6], but there is no evidence that this pseudogene acts as a drug target, biomarker, or is directly involved in disease processes. The functional significance of the vast majority of pseudogenes, including the COX20 pseudogene, remains poorly defined, and most pseudogenes are considered noncoding genomic elements without direct therapeutic relevance[2][4][5][6].
