Overview

COX7B pseudogene 2 (COX7BP2), also known as dJ901O8.2, is listed as a pseudogene related to the COX7B gene, which encodes a subunit of cytochrome c oxidase (Complex IV of the mitochondrial respiratory chain). COX7BP2 does not code for a functional protein. Pseudogenes are generally non-coding DNA sequences with high sequence similarity to known genes but are not translated into functional proteins. Unlike the functional COX7B gene, which is involved in mitochondrial electron transport and disease phenotypes, there is no evidence that COX7BP2 is expressed or serves as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other kind of therapeutic target. No biological, biochemical, or pharmacological data support a role for COX7BP2 in cell biology, disease, or drug interaction. Key clarifications: - The functional gene of interest is usually COX7B (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 7B), not COX7BP2. - There are multiple pseudogenes related to COX7B on various chromosomes, but these do not code for active proteins and are not valid molecular targets. - No evidence in current genomic or pharmacological databases supports COX7BP2 as a credible or actionable biological target. COX7BP2 should not be confused with the functional protein-coding gene COX7B or with diseases associated with COX7B dysfunction. If a functional mitochondrial gene or target is required, consider cytochrome c oxidase subunit 7B (COX7B) instead.
