COX7B pseudogene 4 (COX7BP4)

Target
COX7BP4
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

COX7BP4 is a pseudogene, meaning it is a nonfunctional genomic DNA sequence similar to the functional *COX7B* gene, which encodes subunit 7B of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase. The *COX7B* gene's protein product participates as a structural subunit in the enzyme complex responsible for oxidative phosphorylation; however, COX7BP4 is not translated into a functional protein and does not have a known biological role or disease association. Pseudogenes such as COX7BP4 may arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition, and are generally non-coding and non-functional. This entry is not a recognized therapeutic target and appears to be a non-functional sequence, with no role as a drug receptor, enzyme, transporter, biomarker, or disease gene.
