COX7CP1 (COX7C pseudogene 1) is a nuclear-encoded pseudogene located on chromosome 13, related to the protein-coding gene COX7C (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 7C). Unlike COX7C, which encodes a structural component of cytochrome c oxidase (complex IV) in the mitochondrial respiratory chain, COX7CP1 does not produce a functional protein and plays no known biological role. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other druggable target and has no current relevance for disease association or therapeutics. Key context: All bona fide molecular and disease functions, as well as pharmaceutical relevance, reside with COX7C ("cytochrome c oxidase subunit 7C"), not its non-functional pseudogene COX7CP1. If your interest is the active respiratory chain enzyme, refer to COX7C, not the pseudogene COX7CP1.
