Coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene)
01

Overview

The coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor pseudogene is a non-functional, duplicated genomic segment with high sequence similarity to the functional *CXADR* gene, which encodes a type I membrane receptor for group B coxsackieviruses and some adenoviruses. Pseudogenes do not code for active protein products and are not considered therapeutic targets. Multiple pseudogenes for *CXADR* exist in the human genome, including those on chromosomes 15, 18, and 21. While the functional receptor plays critical roles in viral entry, cardiac development, and cell adhesion, the pseudogene does not have biological or clinical activity.
