Overview

CPEB1 antisense RNA 1 (CPEB1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the genomic locus opposite the *CPEB1* gene. As an antisense RNA, it is presumed to play a regulatory role in the expression of CPEB1, a gene encoding cytoplasmic polyadenylation element binding protein 1 involved in RNA binding and post-transcriptional gene regulation. There is currently no published evidence that CPEB1-AS1 directly encodes a protein or is a validated therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. Its function in human physiology or disease is not well characterized and may be subject to future research. It should not be confused with *CPEB1*, which is a protein with established roles in mRNA regulation[1][4].
