Overview

CPLANE1 antisense RNA 1 (CPLANE1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is transcribed in the antisense direction to the protein-coding CPLANE1 gene, located at chromosome 5q35.1[1][5]. Like other antisense lncRNAs, CPLANE1-AS1 has the potential to regulate the expression of its associated sense gene (CPLANE1) through RNA-RNA, RNA-DNA, or RNA-protein interactions that modulate transcription or translation, predominantly via cis-regulatory mechanisms[2][4][6]. There is currently no evidence that CPLANE1-AS1 has been established as a therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs or biomarkers associated directly with this RNA molecule. Most scientific and clinical research focus for this genomic region is on the role of the sense gene, CPLANE1, in ciliogenesis and ciliopathy syndromes such as Joubert syndrome, not on CPLANE1-AS1[3]. The function and disease relevance of CPLANE1-AS1 specifically have not been characterized in detail to date[1][5].
