Overview

CPNE8 antisense RNA 1 (CPNE8-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene in humans, transcribed from the antisense strand of the CPNE8 locus on chromosome 12q12[8][9][10]. As a member of the lncRNA class, CPNE8-AS1 does not encode a protein product. Its expression has been associated with poor prognosis in patients with early-stage cervical cancer and potentially other malignancies[6][8]. lncRNAs like CPNE8-AS1 typically function by regulating the expression of their sense gene counterparts through various mechanisms, such as modulating transcription, altering mRNA stability by forming RNA-RNA hybrids, or recruiting RNA-binding proteins involved in gene regulation[5][11]. The specific biological function of CPNE8-AS1 appears to involve *antisense regulation of CPNE8*, but detailed molecular mechanisms remain to be clarified. There is no evidence that CPNE8-AS1 itself is a receptor, enzyme, or a direct therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs or targeted therapies acting on this lncRNA[8][10]. Its primary significance may be as a disease biomarker or potential modulator of cancer progression.
