CREB binding protein (CBP), also known as CREBBP or KAT3A, is a transcriptional coactivator with intrinsic acetyltransferase activity. It regulates the activity of many genes involved in cell growth, division, and differentiation. CBP acetylates histones and transcription factors, altering chromatin structure and facilitating gene transcription. It interacts with transcription factors like CREB and plays a critical role in development, memory formation, and energy homeostasis. Dysfunction or mutation of CBP is implicated in Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, various cancers, neurological disorders, diabetes, and metabolic regulation disorders.
