Overview

CREBBP mRNA is the messenger RNA transcript of the CREBBP gene, which encodes the CREB-binding protein (CBP). CBP is a ubiquitous and essential transcriptional coactivator and histone acetyltransferase (HAT) that regulates gene expression by modifying chromatin structure and facilitating the assembly of the transcriptional machinery. It plays a critical role in diverse biological processes, including cell growth, differentiation, and embryonic development. Dysregulation or mutations in CREBBP mRNA and its protein product are implicated in several human diseases, most notably Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome and various cancers such as acute myeloid leukemia and B-cell lymphomas. While the mRNA itself is a target for experimental knockdown using siRNA and shRNA in functional genomics research, therapeutic strategies currently focus on small molecule inhibitors that target the protein's bromodomain or HAT domain. These inhibitors, such as CCS1477 and A-485, aim to disrupt the oncogenic transcriptional programs driven by CBP in sensitive tumor types.
