CREB regulated transcription coactivator 3 (CRTC3)

CRTC3
Molecular classification
Transcription factor coactivator, Other: Protein coding gene

Overview

CREB regulated transcription coactivator 3 (CRTC3) is a protein coding gene encoding a transcriptional coactivator for CREB (cAMP response element binding protein). CRTC3 modulates CREB-dependent transcription by enabling activity independent of CREB phosphorylation and is active in the SIK/TORC signaling pathway. It is implicated in metabolic regulation, including mitochondrial biogenesis and catecholamine signaling in adipose tissue, and may selectively activate cAMP-responsive genes. CRTC3 has links to certain cancers through gene fusion events and is related to weight gain and metabolic disorders. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing. Common aliases include TORC-3 and TORC3. Currently, CRTC3 is not known to be a direct drug target, biomarker, or safety concern from therapeutic intervention[1][2][3][4][7].
