CpPI(4)K
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Lipid kinase

Overview

Cryptosporidium phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase (PI4K or CpPI(4)K) is a lipid kinase enzyme found in the protozoan parasite *Cryptosporidium*, which causes cryptosporidiosis. PI4K catalyzes the phosphorylation of phosphatidylinositol (PI) to generate phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P), a key lipid signaling molecule involved in various cellular processes. It is essential for parasite growth and survival within host cells, making it a validated drug target. Inhibitors targeting this kinase have shown potent anti-parasitic effects. CpPI(4)Ks differ structurally from their human counterparts enough to allow selective inhibition.
