CTBP1 antisense RNA (CTBP1-AS) is a nuclear long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the CTBP1 gene, a known transcriptional corepressor for androgen receptor activity. CTBP1-AS is upregulated in prostate cancer, especially in advanced and castration-resistant forms, where it acts through PSF-dependent mechanisms to epigenetically repress CTBP1 and other tumor suppressor genes by recruitment of histone deacetylases, leading to decreased activating chromatin marks at gene promoters. Functionally, CTBP1-AS promotes prostate tumor growth and cell cycle progression by influencing androgen-receptor-regulated transcriptional networks and repressing suppressive gene programs. It has also been implicated as a potential biomarker for prostate cancer progression and may play a role in other disease states such as PCOS. There are currently no known drugs that directly target CTBP1-AS or a well-characterized mechanism of drug interaction for this RNA[1][4][5][6].
