Target intelligence / Profile preview

CTIF antisense RNA 1 (CTIF-AS1)

Target
CTIF-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

CTIF antisense RNA 1 (CTIF-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to *CTIF* (Cap Binding Complex Dependent Translation Initiation Factor) gene. Like other antisense lncRNAs, CTIF-AS1 is presumed to function in the regulation of its sense gene at the transcriptional, epigenetic, or post-transcriptional level, possibly affecting gene expression through RNA-RNA and RNA-protein interactions, epigenetic modification, or modulation of mRNA stability. While antisense RNAs can act as oncogenes or tumor suppressors and serve as disease biomarkers, there is limited functional or clinical information specifically about CTIF-AS1.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (no drugs known to directly target CTIF-AS1)

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression, especially affecting its sense coding gene (in this case, likely *CTIF*)Epigenetic regulation (potentially via DNA methylation and histone modification, as with other antisense lncRNAs)Post-transcriptional regulation
04

Disease associations

Other (while antisense lncRNAs are implicated in cancer and other diseases, there are no specific reports linking CTIF-AS1 directly to a particular disease)
05

Biomarkers

Antisense lncRNAs in general are emerging as potential biomarkers in cancer, but CTIF-AS1-specific biomarker roles are not reported
