Overview

CUB and sushi domain-containing protein 3 (CSMD3) is a giant transmembrane protein encoded by the CSMD3 gene, located on chromosome 8q23.3-q24.1[1][4]. The gene consists of 73 exons and is primarily expressed in the adult and fetal brain[1][2]. CSMD3 belongs to the CSMD family, which shares homology with CSMD1 and CSMD2, and contains structural CUB and Sushi domains associated with protein-protein interactions and complement control[1][2][5]. CSMD3 is involved in dendrite development and has been implicated as a candidate gene in benign adult familial myoclonic epilepsy[1][2]. It is also associated with several cancers, including ovarian and uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma, suggesting potential tumor suppressor activity[2][1]. There are currently no drugs known to target CSMD3 directly, and no specific biomarkers or safety concerns have been identified in the literature[2][5].
