Overview

Cubilin pseudogene 1 (CUBNP1) is a genomic sequence similar in sequence to the cubilin (intrinsic factor-cobalamin receptor) gene but does not encode a functional protein product. As a pseudogene, it does not participate in any known biological process, disease mechanism, or therapeutic interaction. The biological and pharmacological information applies to the functional cubilin gene (CUBN), not this pseudogene. CUBNP1 is a pseudogene and not a protein-coding gene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but generally nonfunctional; they are not transcribed into functional proteins. In contrast, the canonical CUBN (cubilin) gene encodes a functional receptor involved in vitamin B12 absorption and protein reabsorption in the kidney, and information about disease, drugs, or biological activity refers to the functional gene/protein, not the pseudogene.
