Overview

Cubilin pseudogene 2 (CUBNP2) is a human pseudogene; it is designated as a genetic region with sequence similarity to the functional cubilin (CUBN) gene but does not encode an active protein. Pseudogenes, in general, are defunct genomic sequences similar to normal genes but typically lack the ability to produce functional proteins. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and may have regulatory roles or non-coding RNA functions, the majority—including CUBNP2—are not classical therapeutic targets, nor do they have recognized roles as enzymes, receptors, or transporters. There is no evidence that CUBNP2 encodes for a receptor or participates in endocytic, signaling, or disease-related biological processes. Its main significance is as a feature of the human genome used in studies of gene evolution or regulation[5].
