CUGBP Elav-like family member 2 (CELF2) is an RNA-binding protein involved in the regulation of pre-mRNA alternative splicing, mRNA stability, and translation. It is part of the CELF/BRUNOL protein family, characterized by multiple RNA recognition motifs. CELF2 plays central roles in tissue-specific alternative splicing, with crucial functions in heart, brain, and immune system development. Its dysregulation is associated with a range of diseases, including cancer—where it acts as a tumor suppressor—and developmental syndromes. CELF2 also mediates cellular responses to ionizing radiation in colorectal cancer, in part by promoting autophagy and potentiating radiation-induced cell death. Despite its relevance in disease processes, CELF2 itself is not typically considered a direct therapeutic target, but its expression level may serve as a useful biomarker and its modulation may provide new avenues for therapeutic intervention in cancer and possibly other disorders related to RNA processing abnormalities[1][2][3][4][5][6].
