Overview

CUGBP Elav-like family member 2 (CELF2) is an RNA-binding protein involved in the regulation of pre-mRNA alternative splicing, mRNA stability, and translation. It is part of the CELF/BRUNOL protein family, characterized by multiple RNA recognition motifs. CELF2 plays central roles in tissue-specific alternative splicing, with crucial functions in heart, brain, and immune system development. Its dysregulation is associated with a range of diseases, including cancer—where it acts as a tumor suppressor—and developmental syndromes. CELF2 also mediates cellular responses to ionizing radiation in colorectal cancer, in part by promoting autophagy and potentiating radiation-induced cell death.
