CUGBP Elav-like family member 5 (CELF5) is a member of the CELF/BRUNOL family of RNA-binding proteins, characterized by multiple RNA recognition motif (RRM) domains. CELF5 regulates pre-mRNA alternative splicing, contributing to exon inclusion or exclusion in a tissue- and developmentally-specific manner. It is especially active in processing muscle-specific and neural pre-mRNAs, and its function is implicated in coordinated post-transcriptional gene regulation during development and in certain neurological disorders. CELF5 is not a classical receptor, enzyme, or transporter but plays a critical role in RNA metabolism and alternative splicing, placing it outside standard drug-target classes[1][5][6][7]. **Note:** - CELF5 is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target for drugs, and there are no known drugs or drug mechanisms or biomarker/safety information directly associated with this protein. - Its relevance is in fundamental RNA biology and the etiology of certain neurodevelopmental disorders, rather than in targeted pharmacological intervention.
