Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma-associated antigen 1 (CTAGE1) is a member of the cancer/testis antigen family—genes normally expressed in testicular germ cells but aberrantly activated in certain cancers, including CTCL, melanoma, breast, colon, and head/neck carcinomas[2][3][4][6]. CTAGE1 has several splicing variants and is robustly and uniformly expressed in CTCL lesion skin and cell lines, but not in normal skin or benign inflammatory dermatoses[4]. Its expression can be upregulated by histone deacetylase inhibitors and is regulated by epigenetic mechanisms[4]. CTAGE1 is immunogenic in cancer patients, eliciting antibody responses specific to tumor tissue, and its presence is considered a promising target for immunotherapy and a biomarker for disease progression in CTCL and other malignancies[3][4].
