Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes) is a Gram-positive anaerobic bacterium that resides within the human pilosebaceous unit and is a primary driver of acne vulgaris (Source: StatPearls, 2023). The target encompasses a variety of structural and secreted components, including peptidoglycan and lipoteichoic acid, which serve as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) that activate Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) on host immune cells (Source: J Invest Dermatol, 2013).
