Cutibacterium acnes Cell Membrane

Molecular classification
Cell Membrane, Lipid Bilayer, Peptidoglycan Layer, Lipoglycans
01

Overview

The Cutibacterium acnes cell membrane and associated envelope structures provide structural integrity, facilitate nutrient transport, mediate interactions with the host immune system, and contribute to biofilm formation. Its unique lipid composition, including phosphatidylinositol and triacylglycerol, distinguishes it from other Gram-positive bacteria. The peptidoglycan contains L-diaminopimelic acid and D-alanine. Lipoglycans with fatty acid anchors are also present. Targeting this structure can disrupt bacterial integrity and lead to cell death.
