CWC15 spliceosome-associated protein homolog (CWC15) is a highly conserved, ubiquitously expressed nuclear RNA-binding protein that is an integral component of the spliceosome, specifically as part of the Prp19 complex (also known as the NineTeen complex, NTC)[2][3]. CWC15 is essential for the activation of pre-mRNA splicing during eukaryotic gene expression by facilitating the processing of capped intron-containing pre-mRNA[3]. As a core spliceosomal component, it is required for efficient and accurate mRNA splicing and has a particularly strong developmental importance in all eukaryotes, including yeast, plants, and animals[2]. In plants such as Arabidopsis, CWC15 also promotes microRNA (miRNA) biogenesis by interacting with the transcription machinery at MIR gene promoters and with other miRNA processing factors[1]. CWC15 deficiency leads to global splicing defects and lethality in developmental contexts, but it is not currently considered a therapeutic target or known to interact with drugs[2][3].
