Overview

CXADR-like membrane protein (CLMP) is a type I transmembrane protein in the immunoglobulin superfamily that localizes to junctional complexes between endothelial and epithelial cells, where it mediates cell-cell adhesion[2][3][5]. It is essential for normal development of the small intestine, with loss-of-function mutations causing congenital short bowel syndrome, a disorder characterized by severe malabsorption and shortened intestinal length[1][2][5]. CLMP also regulates adipocyte differentiation and has been implicated in obesity development due to its expression in adipose tissue[2][5]. Additional proposed roles include promoting leukocyte migration and suppressing colonic tumor growth[6]. No small molecule drugs or targeted therapeutics are currently known, but the protein is actively investigated as a potential therapeutic target, especially for congenital intestinal disorders and obesity[1].
