Overview

CXCR2 (CXC chemokine receptor type 2) is a member of the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family that primarily functions as a receptor for several CXC chemokines, most notably interleukin-8 (IL-8, also known as CXCL8). It is highly expressed on neutrophils and oligodendrocyte lineage cells, and also found on basophils, T lymphocytes, and endothelial cells. CXCR2 plays critical roles in neutrophil biology (recruitment, homeostasis, aging), CNS development (OPC proliferation, migration, myelination), and angiogenesis. It has been implicated in acute lung injury, asthma, COPD, cancer, autoimmune diseases, and CNS disorders. SB225002 is a potent selective antagonist for research use.

Mechanism of action

SB225002 is a potent selective antagonist that inhibits IL-8-induced calcium mobilization and prevents both *in vitro* chemotaxis/sequestration *in vivo*.
