CXXC finger protein 1 pseudogene 1 (CXXC1P1) is a noncoding pseudogene in the human genome, named for its sequence similarity to the functional gene CXXC1 (CXXC finger protein 1/CFP1). Unlike CXXC1, which encodes a chromatin regulatory protein involved in transcriptional activation and development by interacting with the SETD1 histone methyltransferase complex[1][3][5], CXXC1P1 contains defects that prevent it from producing a functional protein. There is currently no evidence that CXXC1P1 plays a direct biological or clinical role. Pseudogenes in general may sometimes serve as sources of regulatory RNAs[2][4], but there are no published data specifically implicating CXXC1P1 in gene regulation, disease, or as a therapeutic target.
