Cyclic nucleotide-gated cation channel beta 3

Molecular classification
Ion channel, Ligand-gated ion channel, Cyclic nucleotide-gated channel
01

Overview

Cyclic nucleotide-gated cation channel beta 3 (CNGB3) is a protein subunit that forms part of the cone photoreceptor cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) channels. These channels are essential for visual signal transduction in response to light. CNGB3 contributes unique structural features influencing ion permeation. Its primary role is mediating photoresponses under bright light conditions. Mutations in CNGB3 cause autosomal recessive achromatopsia, characterized by loss of color discrimination, highlighting its critical role in human cone cells for daylight/color vision.
