Cyclic nucleotide-gated channel alpha 1

Molecular classification
Ion channel
01

Overview

Cyclic nucleotide-gated channel alpha 1 (CNGA1) is a pore-forming subunit of the rod photoreceptor cGMP-gated cation channel, crucial for visual phototransduction under low-light conditions. It mediates light-induced changes in membrane potential within rod photoreceptors by regulating the flow of Na⁺ and Ca²⁺ ions in response to cGMP levels. Mutations are associated with retinitis pigmentosa.
