Cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase 10A (PDE10A) is an enzyme predominantly expressed in striatal medium spiny neurons of the brain, where it hydrolyzes the intracellular second messengers cAMP and cGMP, thus terminating their signaling. PDE10A acts as a critical regulator of intracellular pathways involved in movement, cognition, and dopaminergic signaling. It is highly implicated in neuropsychiatric diseases, including schizophrenia, and is considered a promising therapeutic target for related disorders. PDE10A inhibitors have undergone extensive development for clinical use in neuropsychiatric diseases, though as of 2021, no inhibitor has achieved regulatory approval
