Overview

Cyclin D1 binding protein 1 (CCNDBP1) is a nuclear protein encoded by the CCNDBP1 gene located on chromosome 15. It was identified through its interaction with Grap2 and cyclin D1, and functions primarily as a **negative regulator of cell cycle progression** by inhibiting the cyclin-D1/CDK4 complex, which prevents phosphorylation of the retinoblastoma (RB1) protein and blocks E2F-dependent transcription[1][3]. CCNDBP1 may also act as a negative regulator of tissue-specific gene expression, including in the liver, and interacts with other transcriptional regulators such as helix-loop-helix protein E12[1][3]. While CCNDBP1 has roles in regulating cellular proliferation and transcription, it is not classified as a classic drug target (e.g., receptor, enzyme, transporter), and no currently approved drugs are known to directly interact with or target CCNDBP1[1][3][7]. It is studied for its cellular functions and its potential role in diseases associated with cell cycle dysregulation.
