Cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1)

Target
CDK1
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine/threonine protein kinase

Overview

Cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) is a highly conserved serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a central role in regulating the eukaryotic cell cycle. It is essential for the control of both mitosis and meiosis, driving transitions between key phases of the cell cycle. CDK1 forms complexes with various cyclins—most notably cyclin B—to create the M-phase promoting factor (MPF), which is crucial for progression from G2 to M phase. Overexpression or dysregulation of CDK1 has been implicated in various cancers, and inhibition of CDK1 is being explored therapeutically.
