Cyclin-dependent kinase 2-associated protein 2 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene or unprocessed pseudogene
01

Overview

Cyclin-dependent kinase 2-associated protein 2 pseudogene is a non-protein-coding genomic segment in the human genome, homologous to the functional CDK2AP2 gene. Pseudogenes such as this one typically arise through duplication or retrotransposition events, followed by mutations that disable protein-coding ability. Although historically considered “junk DNA,” there is growing evidence that some pseudogenes may have regulatory functions, such as influencing gene expression or acting as molecular decoys, but such functions are context-dependent and not established for every pseudogene. This pseudogene is not known to produce functional protein and is not currently considered a druggable or direct therapeutic target.

Biological functions

Emerging evidence suggests some pseudogenes may exert regulatory functions, such as acting as molecular sponges for microRNAs or affecting chromatin structure, but this is not generally established for every pseudogene.
03

Disease associations

Some pseudogenes have been implicated in disease processes via regulatory roles (e.g., in cancer), but direct evidence for this specific pseudogene is lacking.
