Overview
Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5) is a proline-directed serine/threonine protein kinase that plays essential roles in neuronal development and function. Unlike most other CDKs, CDK5 is not directly involved in cell cycle regulation. Aberrant CDK5 activity is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.
