Cyclin-dependent kinase 7 (CDK7) is a serine/threonine kinase that plays a crucial role in both cell cycle regulation and transcription. As part of the cyclin-dependent kinase family, it activates other CDKs essential for cell cycle transitions. CDK7 is also a component of the TFIIH complex, where it phosphorylates RNA polymerase II to initiate transcription. Its involvement in these fundamental processes makes it a key link between cell cycle control and gene expression, and a target for novel anti-cancer therapeutics, particularly in cancers driven by super-enhancers.
