Overview

Cyclin E is a member of the cyclin protein family that regulates the cell cycle, particularly the transition from G1 phase to S phase. It forms a complex with CDK2, phosphorylating substrates like Rb and promoting DNA synthesis. Cyclin E deregulation is frequently observed in various cancers, which can lead to uncontrolled cell proliferation. Cyclin E also has kinase-independent functions, like facilitating MCM helicase loading onto chromatin.
