Overview

Cyclin-J-like protein (CCNJL) is an atypical member of the cyclin protein family, characterized by its cyclin box fold domain that mediates regulation of cyclin-dependent protein serine/threonine kinases, central to cell cycle progression and cell proliferation[1][3][6]. Although the molecular function of CCNJL in tumorigenesis remains incompletely understood, current evidence suggests a role in the regulation of G1/S cell cycle transition and potential involvement in aberrant cell cycle control mechanisms in cancer[1][3][6]. CCNJL has gained attention as a possible prognostic biomarker, with differential methylation of its gene associated with increased mortality risk in early-stage oral squamous cell carcinoma, indicating a putative role in cancer progression through epigenetic deregulation[1]. However, no drugs are currently known to selectively target this protein and its direct use as a therapeutic target or intervention point is not supported by available evidence[1][6].
