Cyclin N-terminal domain-containing protein 2 (CCNP, also known as Cyclin P and CNTD2) is an atypical cyclin, part of the cyclin family of proteins that regulate the cell cycle via interaction with cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs)[1][3]. Unlike canonical cyclins, CCNP possesses a conserved “cyclin box” but its specific CDK partners and biological functions are not fully elucidated[1]. High expression of CCNP has been found in several cancers, including colon, lung, and especially bladder cancer, where it may function as a tumor oncogene and serve as a prognostic biomarker associated with adverse outcomes[1]. Functional associations include involvement in mitotic nuclear division, DNA replication, RNA polymerase activity, base excision repair, homologous recombination, and regulation of cell proliferation and migration[1][3]. While currently no drugs directly target CCNP, it is considered a candidate therapeutic target due to its cancer-related expression profile[1][3].
