Cyclin-T1 is a regulatory subunit of the **positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb) complex**, predominantly partnering with the serine/threonine kinase CDK9. This complex is essential for the phosphorylation of the carboxy-terminal domain (CTD) of RNA polymerase II, enabling productive transcription elongation of most protein-coding genes. Cyclin-T1 is also crucial for the **transcriptional activation of HIV-1**, serving as a necessary cofactor for the HIV-1 Tat protein. The gene is part of the conserved cyclin family, which has important roles in cell cycle and transcriptional regulation. Overexpression or dysregulation may contribute to tumorigenesis or enhanced viral replication, and Cyclin-T1 is a focal point in studying antiviral and anticancer therapeutic interventions
